The final day

Dear readers

Timothy and Joanne had a disappointing start to the finals as they lost in the Mixed doubles to Asher Ooi and S Tjonadi. They had to contend with silver.

Both players did not let this loss affect them as they continued in their fight for gold in their respective doubles games.

Timothy did WA and his family proud. He won the singles after beating Gary Chau in 2 easy sets.

Joanne and S Tjonadi also managed to get gold in their girls doubles against D Nugroho and C Tan. It was a 3 setter and Joanne must be relieved to finish the 3 setter after losing the first set.

Timothy and Asher had an easier finals beating Jordan Yang and Frederick Zhao in 2 sets.

Good luck to them and the rest of the WA state players on their continuing badminton journey.

2nd day of individuals

Dear readers

Timothy is progressing well in the Under 15s. He has beaten rival Asher Ooi in 2 sets.

He is now headed for a finals match against Gary Chau of Vic. Gary was playing as BS2 in the team event when he beat Terrence Kok in 2 sets. Gary also lost to Jie Ying Chan of NSW 2 in the team event.

Timothy has a good chance to get gold in the singles.

He is also teamed up with Asher in the boys doubles. He will meet Jordan Yang and F Zhao.

Timothy is also in the finals with Joanne in the mixed doubles. They face Asher and S Tjonadi.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that he might get a triple crown just like Xiang Lin.

Joanne fought a 3 setter against Y Y Lim and could not get to the semis in the singles.

Likewise Cindy could  not get past the qtrs. in the mixed doubles and the singles.

Joanne and S Tjonadi will face D Nugroho and C Tan in the finals tomorrow for the girls doubles.

First day of individual events

Dear readers

Now that the team events are over, the players fight for personal glory.

A few of the WA players are expected to progress far.

Their bodies must be sore, but I am sure their spirits are high after winning silver for the WAsps. The junior Scorpion teams must also be proud of their final ranking.

Boys singles

Samuel Shields had to go to the plate after losing to Gary Chau.

Likewise Dion Binod after facing 5th seed D Batra.

Mike Wang had a better run, beating E Sam in 3 sets. However, he was defeated by Mike Chang.

Tyson Ugle also goes to the plate after losing to Ryan Lei. Likewise Wei Y Kuan.

Timothy is seeded 3 and is doing well. He beat K Dai in 2 sets. He then beat Adam Ooi also in 2 sets. He faces Jie Y Chan tomorrow.

Terrence Kok had a victory over Michael Su who is seeded 8. His run ended after losing to Jordan Yang.

Lachland Mcdonald goes to the plate after losing to Asher Ooi who is ranked no. 1.

Girls singles

Joanne is seeded 1. She has progressed well beating Victoria T, and Crystal Russell easily. She meets Yee Yuan Lim in the qtrs.

Chloe Han goes to the plate after losing to V Li.

Young Seryna had a better run. She beat G Anderson before losing to M Wijaya in 2 sets. She will be the star to watch when she is 14 years at the Under 15s.

Lachland teamed up with T Teoh from NSW. They also go to the plate. Likewise Tyson Ugle and M Kelly.

Cindy has paired with Allen Fang of NSW.  They have done well and meet Jordan Y and A Nguyen tomorrow.

Anna and Zhen D Eing also go to the plate.

Timothy and Joanne are seeded 2 and they have an easy run. They will meet F Zhao and C Tan tomorrow.

Boys doubles

Timothy and Asher Ooi of NSW are seeded 1.

They had an easy run and will face Landon K and Mike Su tomorrow.

Zhen D Eng and Mike Wang go to the plate.

Terrence and W Y Yuan have a better run and they are in the qtrs against Jordan Yang and F Zhao tomorrow.

Lachland also goes to the plate after losing to S Shields and T Ugle.

Girls doubles

Joanne is paired with S Tjonadi and are seeded 1. They had an easy run and will meet M Leo and Seryna and M Leo in the qtrs tomorrow.

Chloe and Anna had to meet Cindy and M Wijaya. Cindy and M Wijaya are seeded 3 and they proceed to the qtrs to meet Serena L and A Nguyen.

My expectation is that WA may be in the finals with players in the boys and girls singles.

Final day of team event

Dear readers

The Wasps team goes into battle for a gold.

In recent history, WA has only fought for gold on 2 occasions.

In  2012, when Kim Rodgers was coach, Tyz was Captain, my wife Annie was Umpire, I was the manager and Jaz was Asst coach. We could not beat NSW 1 and lost 1/7. We had to settle for silver.

In 2017, WA fought Vic 1 for gold. Yuli was coach with Annie as the Manager and President Lily as Umpire. The final score was 4/4 but we lost on games at 10/8. It was so close and again we had to settle for silver. Joanne was in that team.

Today, WA had another chance to try and beat NSW 1.

However, as can be seen below, it was a close loss at 5/3. Timothy was unable to convert after a 3 setter. He has given all for WA and his mom Surya (Manager) should be proud of him. Of course his dad will be even prouder.

Joanne again won after a tough 3 setter. She has shown so much courage for WA. I remember a year she played for WA and through pain and exhaustion, she refused to give up in fighting for WA. I knew she was one of the future stars to watch. Cindy has again stood tall for WA.

Seryna, Terrence and Wei Yuan should all be proud that they were in a silver winning team. They are still young and will carry the flag for WA in the future.

Coach Nick and Umpire Kim should be thanked by the players for leading them to this silver win. It was a tough gig to get gold and they fought hard.

Surya, make sure the kids thank you for managing the team. It is not an easy job managing. Been there, done that and know how hard it is.

Now they have to focus on the individual events. Good luck all.

The Scorpions had a tougher day trying to stay at the mid range of the league. They lost 7/1 to NSW 2.

I am sure this experience will help them in their next state team.
